A celebratory weekend in Buffalo’s Masten community honored two trailblazing women for their significant contributions to the community and the City of Buffalo.
The honorees were Wanda A. Covington Bobian, a proud Masten native and longtime advocate for the arts, and Jody J. Covington, a dedicated Buffalo Public Schools leader and alumna of the Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts (BAVPA).
Covington Bobian began her journey in the arts through the African Cultural Center and has continued to make a lasting impact through her commitment to dance, theater and cultural expression. Her work has helped promote the arts and strengthen cultural connections within the Buffalo community.
Covington, meanwhile, has dedicated her career to Buffalo Public Schools and continues to create opportunities for young people through arts and education. As a BAVPA alumna, her professional and community work reflects a longstanding commitment to supporting the next generation.
The community celebrated both women for their leadership, talent and dedication to giving back. Their contributions were recognized as an inspiration to Masten residents and future generations across Buffalo.
The event highlighted the important role women leaders continue to play in strengthening Buffalo’s neighborhoods and expanding opportunities for young people through education, arts and community engagement.
