An event titled “Shine the Light on Domestic Violence” was held in Erie County, New York, to raise awareness about domestic violence and highlight support services available to victims.
District Attorney Mike Keane delivered remarks at the event, hosted by Child and Family Services. He was joined by prosecutors from the Erie County District Attorney’s Office Domestic Violence Bureau and advocates from the BE SAFE Domestic Violence Victim Advocacy Program.
The Erie County District Attorney’s Office thanked Child and Family Services Haven House for hosting the annual commemoration and continuing its partnership in efforts to raise awareness and promote healing for domestic violence survivors.
Officials emphasized that assistance is available through the BE SAFE program for individuals experiencing domestic violence or who may be at risk, as well as people seeking help for someone they know.
The program provides trauma-informed support and victim advocacy, particularly following an offender’s arrest. However, officials stressed that individuals do not need to have an active criminal case to speak with an advocate or access available services.
The event underscored the importance of community partnerships, public awareness and access to support services in helping domestic violence survivors find safety and begin the healing process.
